| High School-Educational Documentary Film |
|
The documentary actually tries tracing the way in which the education system of any ordinary yet urban high school actually functions and has been able to capture the essence of our culture very well. This documentary is actually successful in proving how a High School is not only the social machine for passing on a certain kind of information from one generation to the other but there is also a passing over of the culture and the social mannerisms and norms as well from one generation to the next; and most of it as has been noticed is passed on through the students themselves rather than the teachers. This film is actually a landmark cinema in terms of the Cinema Verite group of documentary films where the film involves you directly into it. Although Wiseman, the director meant to present perhaps an universal picture but the ideology of that particular high school in Philadelphia comes through pretty well too. This film is surely interesting and even if you are not used to the documentary style of films, you are bound to enjoy this one. |
This is a very realistic film shot in an urban school which is located in Philadelphia and is a series of shots and encounters that are put together to formulate the film as a whole. The documentary presents encounters that are held between teachers and students and sometimes between teachers and parents and also that where administrators are held.
