However, whether you believe it or not, ‘School Ties’ is definitely a film that has overcome all those pre conceived notions and has become a distinguishable film in its own right, even though the storyline has some predictable parts. Starring Brendan Fraser and Matt Damon, the film is about a Jewish boy being selected to study in a Catholic school because of his excellence at being a brilliant quarterback. There is some usual conflicts that students face amongst themselves and between teachers as well, there is the conflict over a girl and ultimately the realization of the good cause and a happy ending. However, the film is actually steeped in symbolism which is usually hard to miss, some good pieces of acting and some memorable dialogues, all and all the film has been very cleverly written which is what makes ‘School Ties’ a good watch. The film actually is quite a success and even with the predictable happy ending you cannot help but feel good about the film and the victorious ending. Although, the film is not a perfect one and may not be tagged as the classics of the genre it invokes positive reactions from an audience. |
‘School Ties’ as it belongs to that particular genre of films has to overcome all those clichés that are usually associated with the usual films about school life and an educational institute, especially since the film is set in the 1950’s which is the period of time that has numerous such films set in the same time frame.
