Red Crabs: Australia’s Christmas Island

Christmas Island is the tropical oasis located deep in the Indian Ocean. The Island houses over twenty endemic species from ocean birds to crabs. The red crabs are the most famous species found on the Island. The Christmas Island red crabs mostly eat fallen leaves and flowers but can also feed on other animals.

These red crabs march to the ocean to breed when monsoon clouds signal the beginning of the wet season. However, the red crabs are facing extinction and their numbers have reduced from hundreds of millions to around thirty million over the years. The film takes you into the epic journey of red crabs where they strive to breed as well as survive.
The documentary is set to release during early 2010. The 3D film has been directed by Mark Simpenfendorfer.
